The Health & Fitness Crisis in America, Is technology making us weaker?

Image
Is technology making us weaker? Our society has become increasingly dependent on technology. We have no shame in admitting that we can't live without our smartphones, laptops, and bright devices. In fact, some of us can't even go a few minutes without checking our phones.  But are these things making us weaker?  Unfortunately, I believe so --, and this trend is only getting worse! Technology has impacted our lives in so many ways. Technology has changed the way we live, work and communicate with each other. It has made our lives easier, more convenient, and more entertaining. We can shop from home or on the go and have products delivered to us within hours. We can stay connected to friends and family no matter where they are in the world by texting or calling them on our phones. We can watch movies at home or on airplanes filmed decades ago or even centuries ago! Dependency on technology is the biggest problem. The biggest problem with technology is that it's making us ...

Eugenics on The East Coast

Image
The influence of eugenics on the east coast By Samantha Aiko Introduction  Eugenics was a movement that began in the early 20th century based on the premise that specific groups of people were of a master race. This idea was first popularized by Francis Galton, an Englishman influenced by his cousin Charles Darwin's theories on natural selection. He believed that genius could be passed down through genes, but he also believed that negative traits could be controlled and eliminated from society. Eugenicists around the world took up this mantle, including America where eugenicists like Andrew Carnegie and John D Rockefeller Jr funded institutions dedicated to eradicating diseases like mental illness from our gene pool altogether. Their efforts resulted in over 60% of institutionalized Americans being sterilized against their will - with many believing it would prevent them from passing down mental illness or chronic disease to their children." Eugenics was a movement that began ...

How to WIN an argument Gracefully

Image
As young humans, we are often advised how to behave and what to wear; however, I noticed that they're aren't enough lessons on how to assert ourselves politely during an uncomfortable confrontation.  Unfortunately, this led me into countless situations where I would get emotionally overwhelmed and act out by yelling or insulting the person confronting me.   If I felt I was getting treated in a certain way, I wouldn't know how to address that problem or criticism calmly. I finally realized that when I would behave this way, my point and reason would be lost in the heat of the moment.  After years of not getting the results of my intentions met, I humbled myself and accepted that my emotions don't excuse poor behavioral reactions.  I learned throughout the years that the only way to make the world a better place is to teach people how to treat others by modeling healthier behavior.   It's impossible to offer our perspectives when we are aggressive towards our...

Cringe Human Experiments from the 1900's

Image
Life Before The Institutional Review Board by Samantha Aiko Protection for Test Subjects   The Institutional Review Board is a standard part of the scientific landscape, but it has not always been there. It's a relatively recent innovation—and one that has evolved. The IRB process started as an experiment on human subjects protection and has since become an essential part of the way we do science. When scientists conduct research today, they must consider whether any of their subjects might be vulnerable to harm due to participating in an experiment. They also need to consider whether their work,  in such, raises any other ethical issues.  This segment will discuss the cases before the IRB was implemented.      Human Subject's Protection: The Early Years Changes in behavior due to being observed Human subject protection has a long history;  The FDA was established in 1906. According to FDA.Gov, The 1906 Act was passed thanks to Harvey Wiley's ef...

Superfoods for your PH Balance by Live Ultimate

Image
How The Ultimate Elixir helps with your pH balance Your body’s pH is measured in terms of acidity or alkalinity through your saliva and blood. Alkalinity means your pH is higher than 7 on a scale from 1-14, with 7 being neutral and anything less than 7 being acidic.  Alkalinity is known by many health experts to be a state in which your body functions with optimal health and balance.  Acidity, on the other hand,  has been linked to pain, inflammation, excess weight, and many other serious health issues. Most people live in a highly acidic state due to their diet and lifestyle choices.  The most acid-forming foods include animal protein, dairy, sugar, caffeine, processed foods, alcohol and cigarettes.  The most alkaline-forming foods include greens such as wheatgrass, spirulina, chlorella, barley grass, lemons, alfalfa, vegetables, sweet potatoes, and avocados. Every ingredient in The Ultimate Elixir is alkaline-forming, especially its 8 organic alkalizing...
