Can Mushrooms Support Concussion Recovery?

I am Samantha Aiko, and you're experiencing The Organic Matrix,
The show captures the eternal wisdom of real human experiences to benefit generations to come!

Today's topic is Concussions. Concussions are known as invisible injuries.

The most challenging thing about recovering from a concussion is that symptoms can manifest years after the initial trauma. In this article, I will be sharing how I felt after sustaining concussions in high school and college, and I will also share how functional mushrooms helped me take my mind and my life back after years of feeling alien to myself.

Today we're going to be talking about something pretty personal to me. I was a collegiate wrestler during high school and college, and my style was freestyle.

If you know about freestyle wrestling, you know where the money's at, those five-point throws. When I was in high school, I was obsessed with learning all the Greco moves that I could can, and that, of course, led me to a couple of concussions.

I didn't feel the aftermath of these concussions until a couple of years after I got them. This Article is based off of the talk Alex and I had during our premier episode on Anchor.

Can mushrooms support Concussion recovery?

I intend to share how mushrooms helped me make nearly complete recovery from the brain trauma that I had. The part that hit me was that Mushrooms helped Alex maintain his drive and his will to live. I could relate to that.

I had multiple concussions wrestling in college and high school. During the time I was recovering, and for some time after the trauma, I felt like a stranger to myself like I didn't feel at home in my body.

I was irritable and couldn't enjoy things. For example, my family would get together every Christmas. My sisters and I would get all of our childhood ornaments together and help our parents set up the decorations. These are moments where we should be happy and grateful to have one another, like when we're kids. Instead, all I could think was, " I'm in pain, I don't feel right, I feel very defensive." I noticed I would get offended easily over little things that I would personalize.     Now looking back on it, I can admit a lot of what bothered me was a misinterpretation of my reality.

Eventually, I found out that the mushrooms like Lions-Mane helped me process things and helped me take my time processing the stimulus around me instead of assuming the worst and reacting to the first impulse I felt.

I struggled with negative thought loops. It was like having a song stuck in my head that I couldn't tune out. I've found that listening to daily affirmations can be helpful to reprogram negative narratives mind.

Alex then told me how he tries to ingest different content that helps his mind and body.

Because he feels like we are what we consume, what we listen to, helps. Especially when it's early in the morning, Alex feels like that sets the tone for the rest of the day.

I liked what he said, "Consume," for things we listen to and things we eat. Alex feels that many people don't realize that everything they allow themselves to be subjected to is being consumed by the sub-conscious.

I was listening back at the podcast clip and I realized that I did not sound comfortable talking about my story and my experience, and that's because it was pretty grueling. I thought it was never going to end.

That's why I'm here to talk to you today. If you can relate to the pain of having a concussion and not feeling like your body is yours. Then I'm here to tell you that healing is possible, and there are natural ways you can support your brain by rebuilding new and more vital neural pathways. For example, one of the mushrooms that I drink every day is Lion's Mane. Lion's Mane is a certified neural regenerative.

I bet you're wondering, "Sam, Can culinary mushrooms help me with brain trauma and recovery?"

I'm here to tell you, YES, THEY CAN!

Before I introduced functional mushrooms into my diet, I didn't feel like I was myself. I was with constant irritability, and I struggled to be around groups of people. My social anxiety was through the roof, and I didn't feel one with myself.

If you've had a brain injury or a concussion in the past, I'm sure that you can relate to this. Unfortunately, life after a concussion can feel pretty weird.

Changing the quality of my diet helped me make a full recovery.

If anything, I think I am even healthier than before, and a little bit of that could be the gratitude.
