How are Mushrooms good for our health?

Introduction

Alex Chamizo, a guest we had on our first podcast episode on The Organic Matrix,

uses  Lion's Mane to improve his attention and focus.

At the beginning of the podcast, I saw Alex take a Lion's-Mane extract before we started our recording. He wanted to get a little boost for the conversation to ensure he was in the right Headspace. Alex goes on to say, lions mane helps him feel more dialed in. Alex usually takes it to feel more focused. He said he always suffered from attention and focus and that it was something that helped.

Mushrooms can be excellent support for Alzheimer's and dementia patients. Incorporating holistic measures and western medicine would be the best way to treat the disease that plagues us in America.

Why not take a dietary supplement to support you while going through medical treatment?

Mushrooms can be a tremendous help in providing the building blocks for the body to heal.

This is the right blog for you, if you have seen Fantastic fungi and felt inspired.

There are infinite possibilities on how Mushrooms can aid us and can help us adapt to how the world is changing.

14 Ways mushrooms are good for our health.

1. Beta-Glucans

Medical Mushrooms have Polysaccharides like Beta-Glucans, the compound responsible for the countless medical properties of mushrooms. Culinary mushrooms like shiitake and lions mane will give your body essential nutrients.

2. Benefits of Magic Mushrooms

Magic mushrooms have a compound called psilocybin psi·lo·cy·bin . This compound has the potential to treat health conditions like anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

Magic mushrooms aren't the only ones that can help with anxiety and depression.

Culinary mushrooms are unique for their neuroprotective abilities. Mushrooms like Chaga and Cordyceps help protect neural pathways and reduce free radical damage.

Free radical damage can make your brain cells attack themselves, and antioxidants neutralize the violence.

If you're interested in trying mushrooms, be careful and be aware of where you source them.

For example, if you take psilocybin, please don't drive and be with a sober partner.

If you're taking culinary mushrooms, try to find a brand that offers heavy-metal testing and fruiting bodies, not mycelium, oats or brown rice substrate.

3. Mushrooms Activate our T Cells

Medical mushrooms are very dynamic. Certain strains contain different components that provide intense healing factors for humans and animals. Mushrooms similarly communicate in nature to our nervous system and use synopsis to communicate.

One of the ways mushrooms are medical is that it helps support our nervous system, they activates T cells and help our immune system function.

4. Mushrooms can improve Mental Illness

BREAKING NEWS, scientists are now looking into how many ways mushrooms can support people with various mental disorders like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's disease, and mental illness.

Mushrooms can improve our nervous system.

5. Mushrooms are used to create a variety of medications

Mushrooms gifted us with drugs like penicillin and the chemotherapy drug Taxol.

Technically mushrooms are already a part of Western medicine.

8. Beta-Glucans can lower cholesterol

According to the article, Can Mushrooms Lower Your Triglyceride Levels?  "Beta-glucan, a form of soluble fiber, are found in various concentrations in mushrooms. It is thought that beta-glucan may interfere with the absorption of cholesterol into the bloodstream. Eritadenine is thought to lower lipid levels by modifying the way certain lipids are made in the liver."

9. Beta-Glucans have anti-tumor properties.

According to The National Library of Medicine, "The active components in mushrooms responsible for conferring anti-cancer potential are lentinan, krestin, hispolon, lectin, calcaelin, illudin S, psilocybin, Hericium polysaccharide A and B (HPA and HPB), ganoderic acid, schizophyllan, laccase, Polysaccharides are the best known and most potent mushroom-derived substances with anti-tumor and immunomodulating properties. The polysaccharide, β-glucan is the most versatile metabolite due to its broad spectrum biological activity."

The article goes on to say, that Turkey tail has many anti-tumor properties,

"it may have chemopreventive potential to restrict prostate tumorigenic progression from the hormone-dependent to the hormone-refractory state. Chu et al. (2002) reviewed that the growth of several human cancer cell lines, viz., gastric cancer (7907), lung cancer (SPC), leukemia (MCL), and lymphoma (SLY)-was markedly inhibited by a crudeC. versicolor extract at 1 mg/mL after 72 h of incubation. The polysaccharide peptide krestin ofT. versicolor has potential to be used as an adjuvant in breast cancer prevention (Standish et al. 2008)" - The National Library of Medicine.

According to The University of Gadjah Made, "From the research conducted, the students found that in vitro data of oyster mushrooms can become anti-osteoporosis agent and reduce the risk of osteoporosis by inhibiting osteoclastogenesis process. "

"Oyster mushroom is selected as the object of their study because it is known to contain lovastatin which is known as an alternative inhibitor of osteoclastogenesis process because it can increase osteoblast differentiation and inhibit osteoclastogenesis. The oyster mushroom is also well known for daily consumption. It also has many nutrients such as protein, fiber, carbohydrates, and low in fat." -  Oyster Mushroom Can Reduce Osteoporosis Risks

13. Scientists have done a study with Beta Glucans on mice.

Researchers found that Beta Glucans improved mice's gut health. This is big news because enhancing gut health positively impacts the brain through a two-way communication channel called gut-brain access. Also, beta-glucans counteract the cognitive impairments caused by a high-fat diet and dramatically improve brain information. This is what we need more of in this American society of high-fat, high sodium diets.
